Sixteen Words for Water
Directed by Jeff Watkins Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (October 30, 1885 – November 1, 1972) was an American expatriate poet, critic and intellectual who was a major figure of the Modernist movement in the first half of the 20th century. He is generally considered the poet most responsible for defining and promoting a modernist aesthetic in poetry. He disapproved of American involvement in [WWII] and tried to use his scant political contacts in Washington D.C. to prevent it. When Pound spoke on Italian radio, he gave a series of talks on political and cultural matters, art and patronage and economic theories. Pound believed that economics was the core issue for the cause of World War II. |

Old Mill Theatre presents Female Transport This is the dramatized story of six women convicts transported from England to Australia at the beginning of the 19th century. The Sydney Cove set sail in 1807 on the six month journey and this recounts the determination of six of the women, whose story this is, to survive against the conditions below decks and the indifference, brutality and treatment considered ‘appropriate’ for criminals in ‘those days’. Survive they do with wit, determination and sheer cunning, against the system which treats them as less than human, There’s the Captain for whom this is a commercial venture, the Sergeant who is determined to make them obey, the cabin-boy who doesn’t know which attitude to adopt and the Surgeon, who tries his best to see that the women are treated reasonably |
